On a snowy Christmas Eve, the Stahlbaum home is buzzing with excitement as young Clara joins her family for their annual holiday party. Music, dancing, and joyful chaos fill the room—until Clara’s magical Uncle Drosselmeyer arrives with wondrous gifts, including a lively Ragdoll and Harlequin he seems to bring to life with a sweep of his cape. Among the presents, he gives Clara a beautifully carved wooden Nutcracker.
When her brother Fritz accidentally breaks it, Clara is heartbroken, but Drosselmeyer repairs the toy as best he can.
Later that night, Clara returns to check on her Nutcracker, and at the stroke of midnight the room transforms. Mice play, the ferocious Rat King emerges with an army of rats, and the Nutcracker springs to life with an infantry of toy soldiers. With Clara’s courage and help, they defeats the Rat King in a dramatic battle.

In gratitude, the Nutcracker leads Clara through a shimmering snowstorm to begin the journey to the enchanted Land of Sweets.
Intermission: 15 minutes
Once they reach the Land of Sweets, the Sugar Plum Fairy welcomes them, and dancers from around the world celebrate Clara’s bravery with colourful performances. The Sugar Plum Fairy begins the festivities with her elegant dance. Flowers waltz, their petals twirling. Candy Canes leap and prance in patterns. Indigenous dancers bring smoked salmon, honouring tradition, community, and the land. Ukrainian dancers offer sugared doughnuts, warm and sweet for the holiday season. Irish dancers share honeycomb toffee, golden and crackling with cheer. Chinese dancers present fragrant tea, symbolizing harmony and welcome. French dancers offer elegant cake, a sweet celebration in every slice.
.
Clara watches in wonder as colours, music, and flavours swirl around her. As Clara and the Nutcracker take their turn onstage, the kingdom bids them a fond farewell. When she awakens at home, holding her Nutcracker doll, Clara is left wondering if the night’s adventure was real or simply the magic of Christmas.
